What makes you the best candidate for this seat?

Our family carefully chose to make West Melbourne home. Its location is perfect. The schools are excellent. It's inland enough to reduce the worries of oceanside living, close to the airport, convenient for shopping, and easy to get the amazing places in Brevard County. It's also very near our work places. West Melbourne is poised to be a strong and proud central Florida community supporting the core industries of the Space Coast.

I am running for West Melbourne City Council to help grow our city into a shining example of central Florida living.

John Dittmore, 53, West Melbourne, Incumbent

Marital status: Married.

What makes you the best candidate for this seat?

I have over 25 years of public service, Military Veteran, and am currently the HOA President in my community. As HOA President, I represented multiple communities to stop the redistricting of West Melbourne students to Palm Bay High School in 2017. I have experience in public contracts as well as municipal budgets and am fiscally conservative. I have a good working relationship with other community leaders and can capitalize on those for the benefit of the citizens of West Melbourne. I will continue to bring fresh ideas to make our community the best and safest place to live and work.

Tracy Hudson-Frantzis, 47, West Melbourne

Number of years as resident: Five years.

Education: Bachelor degree from University of Central Florida.

Occupation: Realtor with EXIT 1st Class Realty.

Marital status: Widowed.

Number of children: Three.

What makes you the best candidate for this seat?

I believe that I am the BEST candidate for West Melbourne City Council because we need FRESH ideas and strong leadership. My experience as a REALTOR and mother of three has prepared me for this in many ways. Combined with my ZEST for life and juggling many balls at one time, I have had to work through budgets as well as bring two sides of a transaction together as one. It requires a lot of listening and negotiating skills to bring both parties together and work towards a common goal.

Bill Mettrick, 70, West Melbourne, Incumbent

Number of years as resident: 14 years.

Occupation: Military service, now relief manager public storage.

Marital status: Married.

Number of children: Two children, four grandchildren, one great-grandchild.

What makes you the best candidate for this seat?

I am running for city council to help keep our city moving forward. I want to continue to have to have a strong oriented police department that is vital for our community. I advocate for low taxes and kept our city millage rate low for the last few years, and to also include in our budget an across-the-board raise for city employees.

“While it takes four votes to pass legislation, I believe in civility on the dais. You get more done with civil debate and respect for other council members. My thought is ‘if not broken what’s there to fix!’ Another top priority is our major flooding issues in the city.

Andrea B. Young, 66, West Melbourne, Incumbent

Number of years as resident: 16 years.

Education: Dual degree in Business Management Administration and Accounting and Finance. Graduated Summa Cum Laude from American Intercontinental University. Associates degree from Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Occupation: I work for the residents of West Melbourne full time. Councilman is my only focus and occupation.

Marital status: Prefer not to answer.

Number of children: Prefer not to answer.

What makes you the best candidate for this seat?

I serve all residents full time. I promised to do that previously and I feel it’s important to do that now more than ever.

Roads, flooding & land development demands in West Melbourne requires experienced face to face participation. Safety & schools are paramount. I support law enforcement. Residents have told council what they want for security in the schools. I heard you and I am acting accordingly.

West Melbourne can be a leading example of a bright future to other cities. I work for you, not the other way around. Vote for Young if early voting, mail ballot, or election day.
