BREVARD COUNTY - The 2019 Brevard Poetry Contest is open to all Brevard residents 16 years and older.

Deadline for submissions is March 29. Writers are invited to submit one original, unpublished poem. The entry fee is $10. To obtain detailed information about the awards and the competition, including guidelines and an entry cover sheet, visit or email

Submissions will be judged on five criteria: Impact, Treatment, Rhyme/Rhythm/Form, Word Choice and Technical.

All entries will be read by a panel of reviewers, and the final selection of First,

Second, and Third Place and five Honorable Mentions will be made by judges who are professionals in the field. Awards will be presented at a ceremony at the Central Brevard Library in Cocoa on Saturday, May 25.

First Place award is $250; Second Place $150; Third Place $100. Honorable Mentions receive certificates.

The Brevard Authors Society was founded in 2015 as an online society of independent writers in Brevard County. Their goal is to encourage and inspire writers to achieve the highest level of literary creativity and craftsmanship in writing poetry, prose, drama, comedy, fiction and non-fiction.
