Jeanne M. Vogt, United States Air Force, Retired Chief Master Sergeant is installed as the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 4643 Commander on Armed Forces Day on May 18.

SATELLITE BEACH – United States Air Force, Retired Chief Master Sergeant, Jeanne M. Vogt was installed as the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 4643 Commander on Armed Forces Day, May 18.

The Post which was established Jan. 21, 1966 is located at 1252 Highway A1A in Satellite Beach and is notably known as “The Friendly Post.” VFW Post 4632 is also the only post in the U.S. located on Highway A1A. For the past 52 years the post has had male Commander’s only, marking this as a big step for the post and for the over 500 members of the post and Auxiliary.

Commander Vogt’s parents are also life members of the post; her mother Christina is an Auxiliary member, her father Thomas, a Navy World War ll Veteran who fought on both the Atlantic and Pacific. Both parents were in attendance of their daughters’ installation.

“I think she’s going to do great things for the post. She takes care of everyone and has more energy than anyone I know," said Mr. Vogt, "Our whole family is proud of her; I think I’m the most proud of her though, because she’s my daughter.”

Commander Vogt was born on Veteran’s Day, November 11, raised on Long Island and enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1986 where she served 30 years. She is highly decorated for distinction and heroism; included among these are the Cheney Award for Valor where she is noted as the first and only enlisted female to ever receive the award. When asked why she chose the VFW; Commander Vogt stated: “I just wasn’t done taking care of my fellow service members and Veterans; it’s my honor and privilege to be part of this post and this organization. This post has my heart, these members have my heart and they know it. I come in here every day with a smile, they tease me that I’m always smiling, my response is always the same, ‘Mine might be the only smile some of these folks see today, so yes, I’m going to keep smiling.’”

The installation was attended by over 100 members of the VFW Post, Auxiliary, Family, Friends, Military Members, Local Police, Fire Departments and City Council.

The day began with a flag raising ceremony and speech by the 2018-19 Commander Jeff Sedlak, followed by the group installation of new Auxiliary officers who were sworn in by past VFW Florida State President, Louise Kosar, the new officers installed were: President Walter Imhoff, Senior Vice President Maggie Goings, Junior Vice President Nancy St. Louis, Secretary Dawn Orange, Treasurer Jamie Dias-Hanchar, Trustee Kay Weyker, Trustee Tonya Stempien, Trustee/Conductress Shirley Wunderlich, Guard Linda Bates, Patriotic Instructor Kitty Houston, and Chaplain Loretta Blossom. Next, was the swearing in and installation of the new Post officers by former VFW District 8, Commander William (Bill) Wentling he installed: Commander Jeanne Vogt, Senior Vice Commander Duayne Patterson, Junior Vice Commander Sean Farmer, Quartermaster Mike Petty, Chaplain/Service Officer James McGuiness, Trustee Leo Smith, Trustee Kenneth (Bill) Goings, Trustee Jeff Sedlak, Adjutant Joseph Stempien, Judge Advocate James Campbell, House Committee Chair Warren Chambers and Surgeon Paul Lupica.

The culmination of the day was a speech by the incoming newly installed first female Commander of VFW Post 4643; Commander Jeanne Vogt. She thanked special guests first, and then thanked Bill Wentling for installing her and her team, Louise Kosar for installing the Post Auxiliary team. She congratulated Auxiliary President Imhoff and his officers; she thanked everyone for being there, her parents most of all for everything they have taught her throughout her life, then she spoke of “The VFW family”, teamwork, and taking care of Veterans and family members as being her top priority, lastly, she congratulated her team and ended with saying, “This is our post to lead now!”

The post looks forward to Commander Vogts leadership and will host a 4th of July celebration with fireworks and a cook-out at its headquarters for the public. The post is located at 1252 Highway A1A in Satellite Beach.
