PALM BAY — Mary Anne McMillen became the president of the board of the Shepherd’s Center of South Brevard based in Palm Bay, replacing Gerald “Russ” Livermore on Jan. 1.

Both Ms. McMillen and Mr. Livermore are founding members of the Brevard County organization that provides ongoing Adventures in Learning classes at sponsoring churches.

“(The Rev.) Bill Stremel and I started this group in 2005 to provide educational opportunities for us older folks. I’ve been the president 15 years since its inception and it’s time for a change in leadership with fresh ideas,” Mr. Livermore said.

Mr. Livermore and other volunteers will be honored at a pizza party to open the winter term on Thursday, Jan. 12 at Wesley United Methodist Church, located at 2075 Meadowlane Avenue in West Melbourne.

Ms. McMillen was also at the first organizational meeting and has been actively involved ever since. She most recently was chairman of the Curriculum Committee. A native of West Virginia, she was an archivist and records director for National Geographic before her retirement.
