Art of Dave Miller at Studios: The Studios of Cocoa Beach, 165 Minuteman Causeway in downtown Cocoa Beach, is hosting a mini exhibit featuring the work of Dave Miller. Dave is well known locally as a surfer, inventor and a musician in the Honey Miller Band. But his creativity also extends to the visual arts. His complex, color filled abstracts evoke imagery of earth, fire and water. Dave’s paintings will be on display throughout the month of September. Fused Glass Jewelry Making: Jo The Studios of Cocoa beach is hosting a 4 session class on “Fused Glass Jewelry Making” with Jamille Haddad. The class runs from 6 to 8 pm on consecutive Wednesdays, September 8,15,22 and 29, 2021. Jamille will guide you through the process of creating fused glass! The first week will cover selecting glass for jewelry projects, cutting glass for fusing, and some basic knowledge of kiln work. During week two, students will work on designs for projects and begin cutting glass. Week three will continue cutting and assembling projects to be loaded into the kiln, and the fourth week will unload the fired pieces and apply jewelry findings. Jamille has been designing and producing stained glass and fused glass art in the central Florida area for over 40years. Body Awareness and Posture Correction Workshop: Dr. Sarah Middleton PT, DPT will host a Body Awareness and Posture Correction Workshop at The Yogi Perogi, 281 N Babcock St, Melbourne, on Sept. 10. Everyday activities such as prolonged sitting, computer work, and cell phone usage often negatively impact our body’s alignment and posture. Having good postural awareness helps prevent injury and optimizes physical performance. Remembering 9-11: Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy, located at 5625 Holy Trinity Drive in Melbourne, will present a tribute to 9-11 victims and first responders on Saturday, Sept. 11 from 7-9 p.m. In honor of the 20th anniversary of September 11, your Space Coast Symphony will pay tribute to the victims and survivors, their families, and emergency responders, whose lives were forever impacted on that tragic day. Opening the program is Samuel Barber’s moving and searing Adagio for Strings. The destruction of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001 had a deeply personal resonance for composer Kenneth Fuchs, who had lived in New York City for 20 years. His Falling Man was inspired by the 2007 novel about life after 9/11 by Don DeLillo, and is a series of arias and interludes written for voice and orchestra. It will feature celebrated baritone, Thomas Potter. The concert closes with Aaron Copland’s monumental symphony and the origin of his instantly recognizable, Fanfare for the Common Man. Adult Baseball League begins: The South Brevard Adult Baseball League, which plays at Viera Regional Park, 2300 Judge Fran Jamieson Way, Melbourne, FL 32940; Max K. Rodes Park, 3410 Flanagan Avenue, West Melbourne, FL 32904; Flutie Athletic Complex, 2101 Oak Street, Melbourne Beach, FL 32951 will begin their 2021 season on Sunday, Sept. 12 and continues Tuesdays and Fridays starting at 6:00 p.m, and Sundays starting at 10:00 a.m. Cost is $900 per team.

Remembering the Past, Anticipating the Future: The Community Band of Brevard will pay tribute to the victims of 9/11 and the group's own founding band leader in a concert Remembering the Past, Anticipating the Future, on Sunday, Sept. 12 at Merritt Island High School Auditorium, 100 Mustang Way (off North Courtenay Parkway, 32953). The 3:00 p.m. concert will feature musical selections favored by Marion Scott, who passed away last October and founded the Community Band of Brevard in 1985. The all-volunteer group enjoyed three and a half decades of music-making under conductor Mr. Scott, and are grateful for the efforts of their new bandleader, Mr. Robin Kessler. Remembering the Past, Anticipating the Future will also remember all those who lost their lives during the attacks on the Pentagon in Washington, DC; Flight 93 in Pennsylvania and the World Trade Center in New York City on September 11, 2001. The music of composer John Williams will be featured, along with fitting music from films and a selection of well known and patriotic works. The band will also perform Marion Scott's personal favorite, the moving "Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral," from Richard Wagner's Lohengrin. Blessing of the Animals: Join us as we celebrate the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi which honors the special role animals play in peoples’ lives. VIRTUAL Human Trafficking Summit: Registration for the 2021 Human Trafficking Summit is now open. The summit will take place online on Tuesday Oct. 5. It brings together local, state and national leaders working to eradicate all forms of human trafficking. This will be the second year that the summit is in a virtual format, allowing for more participants regardless of geographical location. Introduction to Stained Glass: The Studios of Cocoa Beach is hosting a 3 session “Introduction to Stained Glass” Class . When the class was offered in August it quickly sold out so the Studios is offering it again. The first class is on Wednesday November 3, 2021, from 6 to 9 pm. The class meets again on November 10 and 17. Jamille Haddad is the instructor. He has been designing and producing stained glass and fused glass art in the central Florida area for over 40 years. " I strive for beautiful craftsmanship while pushing the material to its limits in creating art to enhance our living and working environments." Mr. Haddad will take you through the entire process of creating a stained glass work of art! The first week will focus on glass-cutting techniques, choosing design and selecting colors. Week Two will involve cutting the glass for the project, and includes an introduction to the copper foil technique. Lawndale - a Blue Star Museum: Lawndale is an 1880 pioneer homestead in Rockledge that is now open for tours. It has now been registered as a Blue Star Museum. That means that active duty military and their families will have free admission through Sept. .

Lawndale sits on a 2 acre site with 183 feet of river frontage along scenic Rockledge Drive. Docents in period dress guide visitors through the old homestead which has been restored and furnished as a family home of 1895. The beautiful riverfront location of Lawndale at 1219 Rockledge Drive is in the middle of three National Register Historic Districts.
