BREVARD COUNTY — Now and then you meet an extraordinary person who enjoys giving toward their community, and their actions help make the world around them a happier place.
Meet Sandy Jankovich: a business owner with an incredible sense of fashion and a big heart. Mrs. Jankovich owns Simply Amazing Unique Boutique and has gotten into a charitable spirit of giving back to her community through hosting fashion shows.
It all began with a playground. When Mrs. Jankovich discovered that Oak Park Elementary School’s playground was removed and students were left to fight over a turn with a hula-hoop, she knew she had to do something.
“A teacher from Oak Park came in and mentioned to me how they have no playground ... it was deemed unsafe,” Mrs. Jankovich said. “I went to Madison [Middle School], so when I was walking home, the young kids were already gone. My friends and I would stop, swing on the playground and hang out before we’d go home.”
According to Mrs. Jankovich, she found out the school board no longer pays for playgrounds and it’s up to individual schools to cover the cost if they want one.
To help bring the playground back, Mrs. Jankovich met with Oak Park Elementary School Principal Susan Mulchrone and teacher Danielle Poley to create a holiday fashion show to benefit the school.
Students from the school modeled alongside Simply Amazing staff models, and altogether raised $1,500 toward the playground.
“Whatever they raise, and they get a grant for,” Mrs. Jankovich said, “the school board will match it. These playgrounds are expensive; they’re about $66,000, and the school is already halfway there.
“It was really exciting to see how this show pulled the kids out of their shells,” Mrs. Jankovich continued. “One mom said her son would never do it, but he jumped up and said, ‘Yes I would!’ and did the little Fortnite dance. She looked at me and said she couldn’t believe he would ever be saying that.”
Currently, Mrs. Jankovich is working with Astronaut High School to raise funds for its media department to purchase new cameras for its students. Simply Amazing Unique Boutique will host a fashion show in time for prom next year.
The show is tentatively scheduled for Feb. 16, and it will include at least 20 prom dresses along with clothes found at the boutique.
Mrs. Jankovich has expressed her enthusiasm to work with any school, company and nonprofit to help raise funds for whatever is needed.
“When I was younger, I got into local theatre and little pageants and modeling things,” Mrs. Jankovich said. “I loved the fashion part of it – I loved the dressing up, jewelry and the clothes. I can really help people in matching outfits with jewelry, or matching up some great jewelry with a dress they want.”
Located at Titus Landing, Simply Amazing Unique Boutique offers a wide variety of fun, trendy items for men, women and children. Families and individuals looking for a great place to shop couldn’t find a better place than this boutique.
Mrs. Jankovich puts her passion where her mouth is, and when patrons walk inside her store, she is ready to greet them with a smile and fashion advice.
Inside the boutique are handmade mugs and candles from small businesses who exclusively sell items to boutiques rather than online like Amazon.com.
Dog and cat lovers alike can wear their heart on their sleeves with “Puppie Love” and “Kittie Kittie” clothing line, which donates a portion of its proceeds to no kill shelters and animal adoptions.
One of the most popular items though, are small and glittery buttons called “Sandy Snaps.” These little buttons are a great way to customize any accessory from purses, necklaces, bracelets, sunglasses, rings, earrings, hats and watches.
Anyone can show off their love of sports, wildlife, “Harry Potter” House pride, “Mickey Mouse” and “Minnie Mouse” to something plain and simple like their favorite colors.
Simply Amazing Unique Boutique is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday through Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. It is located at 2520 S. Washington Ave., Suite 130, Titusville.
