MELBOURNE — The City of Melbourne will be placing dumpsters in the parking lot of the Lipscomb Community Center so that area residents can discard large waste items.
From May 3 through June 4 three dumpsters will be temporarily placed in the parking lot which is located at 3400 Monroe Street.
Residents will be able to dispose of things like damaged fencing and pressure treated wood, miscellaneous household items, including furniture, and old tires.
This is part of the city's annual effort to prevent roadside dumping in Melbourne neighborhoods. It offers local residents a chance to get rid of large items that are not picked up as part of their regular waste collection service.
The service is being provided for free thanks to Waste Management which is providing the dumpsters to the city at no charge. Thanks as well to Brevard County for waiving fees at the landfill.
The dumpsters are for the exclusive use of Melbourne residents disposing of their large personal household waste items. Businesses and contractors may not use these dumpsters.
Residents are asked to place their items inside the dumpsters, not on the ground. Waste items should be placed in the dumpsters during daylight hours only.
The dumpsters will be emptied and replaced regularly between May 3 and June 4.
