Where do we get the vaccine?
I hear there is a COVID-19 vaccine you can get to ward off the virus. T.V news announced there is 2,000 shots for Melbourne and more to come. But, where? When we get more, who will be announcing it? By appointment only? Now the TV news is showing a group of people getting shots. Where did they get that appointment? The newscaster declares that you need to get a shot.(vaccination) How, when and where? On the phone for the 11th time I hear "If this is an emergency, hang up and dial 911."
I'm sure one day they will announce on the news, you better hurry and get this shot, you only have till the end of this week to get one or you will be out of luck and this is Friday noon news. Just call for an appointment right away. All appointments are gone. Can anyone clear this up? Where do you get an appointment?
Recently my wife and I got our first COVID-19 vaccine shot at the Health First Complex in Melbourne. We were extremely impressed with the entire organization and personnel associated with this activity. It went very smoothly, there was no waiting, and all of the people were so friendly and professional. Kudos to a job well done!
It is terrible that after only a few days of seniors being able to register for the COVID vaccine the Brevard Health Dept chose to only allow registration over the computer.
What about all us seniors (and soon other citizens) that don't have a computer or lack the skills of getting through their computer maze? I am sure there are thousands of us? What are we to do? Just wait to contract the virus and become a statistic?
You sure can't talk to a real person or get through their bunch of answering machines to get an answer on what to do.
I'm sure that by going to the computer it made their jobs easier but it has sure banned a lot of us. Making their job easier has done a dis-service to many senior residents.
The governor has said seniors will be after health care workers and first responders. Too bad local politicians and the Health Dept don't do as the governor says. We don't want to go to the head of the line, we just want a chance to get in the line for the vaccine.
Here in north Merritt Island we are very grateful to our waste management department for keeping our neighborhood so clean! Its not easy with some of the nasty things some people pile up!
Home insurance rate too high
I just received my home insurance rate increase for 2021. The premium increase due to be approved is $409.00. The increase due to coverage change is $59.00. The total increase for one year is $468.00.
I'm a retired DOD firefighter and just received a yearly pay increase amounting to $471.84.
Yearly COLA - $471.84
Home Insurance Increase -$409.00
Remaining COLA - 62.84
However I'll be left with a monthly COLA increase of just $5.23 after the pending increase in property taxes and required auto insurance.
This will be the first year since moving to Florida that I will have a negative income due to increase of insurance and other fees and taxes that are regulated and mandatory by the state of Florida.
I understand that increase taxes and fees are to be expected but not the massive rate increase so generously bestowed upon insurance companies by the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation.
I'm, sure that this gross rate increase was granted before the word situation took a drastic, horrible change. A deadly change. A disastrous financial change.
It's time for the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation to revisit this rate increase because the vast majority of home owners here in Florida absolutely cannot afford it.
If you believe that the insurance rate increase is excessive, call or write the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation and Gov. DeSantis to express your concerns.
Through no fault of our own, with all the struggles just to put food on the table, now is not the time to inflict more financial disasters on us.
You'll be happy to know that as a reader I find that you report the news more impartially than the other local paper. One of their articles blamed someone for something and as of yet it is unproven. I believe that a paper's responsibility is to report the news not to editorialize it as it is being delivered. I have also noticed this from one of the TV news reporters in Orlando which is why we now watch a different channel. Have a great day
Pick a side
The smallest minority of all is the individual. Who looks out for my interests?
Our Constitution. Who defends the smallest of all minorities and Our Constitution?
Nobody. Just because things are suppressed by the “enemedia,” does not mean they did not happen. Address your cognitive dissonance and pick a side. Fascist globalists or American Patriots. Appeasing oppressors has once again proven not to work.
E Pluribus Unum.
Vaccines do not cause autism
For the second time in three weeks, I feel the need to comment on another false, misleading article in "Rants".
This time the writer is claiming vaccines have a strong connection with autism. This statement is totally false. The research is clear: vaccines do not cause autism. More than a dozen studies have tried to find a link. Each one has come up empty.
The Institute of Medicine looked at all the studies on vaccines and autism, both published and unpublished. In 2004, it released a 200 page report stating there was no evidence to support a link between vaccines and autism.
Studies continue to look at this issue. In 2019, the largest study to date looked at almost 660,000 children over 11 years and found no link between vaccines and autism.
This so-called vaccine-autism myth started over 20 years ago. It is an example of "fraudulent science". In spite of every legitimate study debunking a link between the two, the fake science news stories championed by the conspiracy theory fringe keep spreading the lies.
Let me get this straight - you have a bad back or you’re a convicted drug user you can’t find work or you’re an alcoholic, you doctor shop , you get an ambulance chaser, better known as an attorney , you fill out a whole bunch of paperwork describing why you can’t work. You get fully funded government check, then you’re out on the town either getting supplied with pain killers or you’re at your local pub drinking. Now you can live what you interpret as a nice life style. Wow, what a scam. No wonder communities have problems and our country is in the toilet. If you don’t find anything wrong with this then my suggestion is please don’t vote because you can’t even take care of yourself.
Curbing the golf carts
The rave is to the manager and personnel at the Winn Dixie Store on Route 1.
The store put up signs forbidding the parking of golf carts on the sidewalk in front of the store.
You would think that it would not be necessary, that common sense and good manners would cause people to park in the parking lot, but that doesn't happen.
If you have ever shopped at the store then you have played "dodge the golf cart" either driving down the sidewalk or parked blocking the door.
If the cart drivers drove their car to the store they would park in the parking lot without thinking about it. But put the same people in a golf cart and they think the rules do not apply to them.
Once again, a "job well done" to the store.
Now if the sheriff’s department would ticket those golf carts driving on the sidewalk.
Sounding off on welfare recipients
Let’s see who wants to pay for other lazy peoples life style? Who wants to give their hard-earned money to people who don’t want to work? Who wants to support women who want to get pregnant just so they can catch a free ride on the welfare wagon? Yes, those who have more than one child but don’t work to support the kids you’re producing. You know who you are. Anyway, who wants to support those individuals? Not me or anyone one else with good morals. Take a look at the history of it… socialism doesn’t work. If people can’t support themselves then they have their own problems. Hard working people or successful business people shouldn’t have to bear that.
A rave about the area
I just moved here from up north to escape the cold, harsh winters. Much to my delight are so many lovely residents that are welcoming and friendly. It's so refreshing to live in a beautiful community that thrives. Riding my bike around the area I find so many wonderful places to shop, frolic along the beach or find a great book at the library. All the goodness here is much appreciated including the beautiful weather. Thank you!
A true southerner
Okay, here we go again. I’m a true southerner, born and raised in the south. I’m not one of these snow birds who move to the south and live here for a couple of years then claim to be a southerner. I have to laugh when I go to Publix and watch these snow birds in the parking lot and of course in the store. In the store you have to watch them because they're always in a hurry and believe me they will run you over with their shopping cart. I'm thinking their house must be on fire and they have to hurry home to put it out. Now for the parking lot… they see someone backing out of a parking space and if they want the space they'll sit and wait, but if not they'll sit and lay down on that horn, and it’s a wonder they don't give the poor soul backing out a heart-attack. When these snow birds pack up and come south for our nice warm weather and our beaches you would think they would know in the south we take things slow, laid back and enjoy life. It's not good to be in such a rush. No wonder the doctor’s office is so full in the winter when they come down. So please don't be so rude and unfriendly… respect us southern folks. Life is too short to just hurry through it. Just lay back and enjoy our warm weather and of course, the slow moving Southerners.
